Become a smarter, happier person by joining the BSD's staff Choir, The Notebooks. 

Singing, unlike coffee, improves your mental alertness through improving your blood circulation and increasing your oxygenated blood. The more oxygen reaching your brain the more mentally alert you are, the more you can concentrate and utilize memory. Wellness Wednesday

Types of Self Care
The mental health team is happy to announce that they will be providing Wellness Wednesdays for staff.  Each Wednesday, they will lead a wellness session starting at 3:30 pm at varrying school sites (schedule posted here, updated regularly)). These sessions will include moments to connect, to listen to a meditation, and/or to do a variety of wellness activities.  Wellness Wednesday will be hosted at a different site each week, so check your email for updates.

Meditation is scientifically proven to reduce stress and anxiety and promotes mindfulness, memory, self-awareness, kindness, and many other positive lifestyle traits.

Teacher Climbing Nights - every 2nd and last Friday get 1/2 off a day pass.

San Mateo Athletic Club

Gym Membership Deals - discounted rates for BSD staff and family members:

  • Single: $195 initiation*/ $58 monthly

  • Couples: $205 initiation*/ $90 monthly

  • Family: $290 initiation*/ $114 monthly

* Take $50 off initiation if an existing member refers you. 

24Hour Fitness

24Hour Fitness has several gyms throughout California, with one in Millbrae and one in San Mateo. There are two types of gyms - the All Sport regular gyms, and the All Sport Super gym with greater amenities. 

  • $30 initiation fee at both gym types

  • All Sport - $30 monthly membership

  • All sport Super - $45 monthly membership

  • Add-on members receive the same monthly membership dues

  • Save a dollar or two with an annual membership fee

Prime Time Athletic Club 

This is an very large upscale private athletic club in Burlingame, and their membership dues reflect that fact. However, there are some discounts:

  • September Special - $99 single/ $149 couple initiation fee and $105/$155 monthly dues; kids only $20 more per month

  • County Employee - $150 single/ $200 couple initiation fee and $105/$155 monthly dues; kids only $20 more per month

If there are 10 or more BSD employees joining than we can negotiate a slightly lower monthly fee.

Free Bikes and Bike Tune-Ups

No doubt riding a bike can be a healthy thing to do, and a great way to get your exercise while getting to work. If you need a bike, the BIS Bike Club offers free bikes through our Adopt a Bike program. We also offer free bike tune-ups and repairs.
