BSD Maker Tools by Theme

With strong support from the Burlingame Community for Education (BCE) Foundation and district funding, BSD continues to acquire tools, materials, supplies and resources to support active learning through making. View the carousel below to see some great examples. Below the carousel you can scan an overview of what BSD has implemented to date using the themed approach we've shared.

Textiles and Fabric Arts

All BSD sites have been provided Cricut Maker intelligent cutting devices and EverSewn sewing machines.

Circuitry and Electronics

BSD schools were provided Circuit Blocks to support the exploration of these concepts. Circuit Blocks are compelling, as they don't just snap together, but require students to physically make connections as they build circuits.

Physical Computing

BIS received a set of micro:bit controllers and related accessories to explore computational thinking and programming.

Hand Tools & Manual Fabrication

From basic prototyping tools for cardboard, evolving now into extended sets of hand tools, these are providing BSD students opportunities to develop knowledge, skill and craft abilities.

Digital Fabrication Tools

In addition to the aforementioned Cricut Maker, each BSD site has a 3D printer. Appropriate given the older students using them, BIS uniquely has a Carvey Intelligent Router and is about to acquire a Glowforge 3D laser printer/cutter/engraver.
