Burlingame Summer Academy

Summer Academy

The Burlingame Summer Academy will take place June 21st-August 4th, 2023 at Franklin Elementary School (TK-5th) and Burlingame Intermediate School (6th-8th).

The Summer Academy is composed of four different programs:

1. Extended School Year (ESY) from June 21st - July 19th. This full day program (8:30am-3:00pm) is for BSD students with an IEP for Special Education that mandates extended summer instruction.

2. Step Up to Kindergarten from July 10th - August 4th. This half day program (8:30-11:30) is designed for first time kindergarten students who have not had any previous preschool or TK experience.

3. Full STEAM Ahead from July 10th - August 4th. This full day program (8:30am-3:00pm) focuses on math and STEAM enrichment. It is intended to support under represented BSD students and students struggling to achieve grade level standards in math. There is a tiered enrollment process for this program. Tier I - Students targeted by ELOP funding. Enrollment by invitation only. Tier II - Students recommended by teacher referral. Enrollment by invitation only. Tier III - Open enrollment. 4. BSD/Galileo PartnershipA partnership to provide camp scholarships to vulnerable students, and discounts to BSD families

The Full STEAM Ahead program will include a morning session of Jo Boaler's Youcubed summer math curriculum and math support focused on critical thinking and problem based learning. After lunch, the program will include STEAM enrichment blocks.

This is a full day program from 8:30-3:00. Lunch, snacks, and limited transportation will be provided to all students free of charge. In addition, social-emotional activities will be integrated throughout the day in collaboration with BSD’s mental health/behavioral support staff.  All classes will be taught by Burlingame School District staff.

Grade level assignments will be based on the child’s grade for the 2023-2024 academic year (rising grade). For example, if your child is currently in 3rd grade, they will be participating in the 4th grade program during the Summer Academy (7th graders will be in the 8th grade class and kindergarteners will be in the 1st grade class). Current 8th grade students are ineligible to participate in the Summer Academy.
