Florence is currently serving her 2nd term on Burlingame Elementary School District’s Board of Trustees. During her first term, she helped craft the district’s Mental Health Policy (BP/AR 5031), which is the first for any school district in California. She hopes for more opportunities to create meaningful policies that will positively impact students’ lives during her 2nd term.

Florence is a licensed clinical psychologist and has lived in Burlingame since 2003. She has a 10th-grade daughter at BHS and a daughter in the Adult Transition program at BHS. Due to her older daughter’s disabilities, Florence has been a strong supporter of organizations that serve the disability community. She was Chair of BSD’s Special Education District Advisory Committee (SEDAC) for almost 4 years. Currently, she is the Vice President of San Mateo County's Commission on Disabilities and a member of the State Council on Developmental Disabilities' Bay Area Regional Advisory Committee.

Florence and her husband have proudly supported Burlingame Community for Education Foundation (BCE) for many years. She served in two roles on BCE’s Board, first as a Roosevelt Site Representative and then as VP of Scholars Circle. For fun, Florence enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing piano in a pop cover band, and volunteering for American Red Cross's casework and disaster mental health teams.
